Iceland

The count down has begun. Tomorrow we board an airplane to Iceland. It's feels weird to be heading somewhere that requires warm clothes. Weather wise the highs will be between 13 C and 15 C and lows around 10 C.

October 2, 2025  Flying Home Who thought a 6am flight out of Zagreb was a good idea? Not me, but it's what we had to do to connect to our flight in Amsterdam. The 6am flight translated to waking up at 2:30 am and leaving the hotel at 3:00 am. I actually fell asleep while the plane was getting ready to depart ----- I missed take off. I guess that's what happens when you get 2 1/2 hours sleep.  Ed was awake to catch leaving Zagreb at 6am We landed in Amsterdam at 8am and caught part of sun rise. There was a brilliant sun rise as we were flying but we were on the wrong side of the plane to take photos.  Getting ready to land in Toronto. You can see the CN tower.  We are now at home and I'm thinking about a winter trip. Tunisia & Malta

April 28, 2026 Churches, Catacombs and a View This morning we drive to Mosta to see the Rotunda Catholic Church. We then proceed to Mdina, Malta's ancient capital city, which preserves the medieval Arab city within Massive fortifications. A short walk takes us to Rabat where we visit a restored Roman Villa and the  Catacombs of St. Paul and St. Agatha, which preserve early Christian burial practices and feature characteristic agape tables. The Rotunda of Mosta, built between 1833 and the 1860's. It is renowned for having the third-largest unsupported dome in the world. The architecture is based on the Pantheon in Rome. During World War II in 1942, a bomb pierced the dome but did not explode, saving the lives of hundreds of people inside. A crane is being used in Dome conservation to preserve its structural integrity and historical significance. February 22, 2026 Home - Safe, Sound and Cold!!! Yesterday, we had a leisurely morning as our flight wasn't till 4:03pm. Check in at the airport went OK. For some reason the machines that take your photo to match to your passport don't work for Ed. It took 4 tries and 2 machines before a machine decided that Ed matched his passport and was allowed through. Ed speculated that too much white --- hair, shirt, face and blue eyes. I think Ed will wear a coloured shirt the next time we fly. The fly was uneventful, except for 2 attempts to land. Apparently, the weather was an issue. As we arrived in the late evening at the airport, we stayed at hotel and drove home today. It's good to be home except for the snow and cold. Hopefully, spring will arrive with the calendar.  This year is going to be a fairly busy travel year as we leave April 13 for a month visiting Tunsia, Malta and Southern Italy.
